    Housing Information 
    Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) gives active service members two options for housing; living on post or finding a home off-post within the community.

    • Once you have orders to move, contact the Housing Services Office  (254) 287-3704 / 4212. They can answer all of your housing questions and provide services such as referrals, resolving tenant-landlord disputes, and guidance for entering lease agreements.

     Fort Hood On Post Housing  

    • On-post housing for Fort Hood is privatized and operated by Winn Companies (254) 220-4799, which offers housing for families, Single and Unaccompanied Soldiers. They have 2-4 bedroom apartments and townhomes based on pay grade and family size. Home amenities may include: washer/dryer hookups, carports/garages, fireplaces, AC and cable. The community amenities are: swimming pool, playground, splash parks, basketball courts, fitness centers and more.

    Surrounding Areas
    Killeen is located in central Texas in between the major cities of Dallas and Austin. It has a population of 128,000 and is adjacent to Fort Hood. Other nearby communities, which also offer reasonably priced off post housing, include Belton, Temple, Salado, Nolanville, and Harker Heights. The average commute in the area is about 22 minutes. Dallas is a 2.5 hour drive to the north, while Austin is 1.5 hours south. Waco is about an hour to the northeast. All these areas offer a variety of tourist attractions, cultural, and historical entertainment within an easy day trip of Fort Hood. Texas is proud of its heritage; new residents should have no trouble finding out more about the Lone Star State. The cities near Fort Hood are: Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Nolanville, Belton, Temple, and Kempner.

    About Fort Hood
    Ford Hood is home to a training center for tank destroyers and is known for its open spaces which allow for multiple testing and training opportunities. This installation is located near Killeen, Texas, about halfway between Austin and Waco, Texas. Three sections make up Fort Hood and include the main cantonment, West Fort Hood, and North Fort Hood.
